Watch this live Nintendo concert with holograms of the idols from KK Slider and Splatoon 3 – BDStory

Move over, Spotify Wrapped. My favorite music thing on the internet this week is Nintendo’s official English translation of it Splatoon 3 and Crossing animals concert with holograms of the characters from the games.

The concert, starring musical dog KK Slider as DJ and the idol superstars of Splatoon 3, originally took place during the Nintendo Live 2022 event in Japan back in October. I watched it afterwards, thanks to generous fans who uploaded the livestream concert, but the characters’ subtitles were in Japanese.

The music rocks. For the first half of the show, DJ KK spins some remixes of his songs from the Crossing animals series that you can easily float with. Then Deep Cut brings down the house with songs from Splatoon 3 performed by a live band. (I’m totally in love with Splatoon 3 soundtrack, so maybe I’m biased.)

The official English translation is exactly what you would expect after playing the games. Isabelle the dog has a charming introduction to the office that you may be familiar with Animal Crossing: New Horizonswhile Shiver, Frye and Big Man van Splatoon 3 fictional Deep Cut band has a lot of witty banter. Don’t worry, the characters still speak in their respective made-up gibberish languages.

In both acts, characters dance on stage like holograms, and at least in the video, the effect is really impressive. You can almost believe they are really there. The audience is filled with people waving light bars, adding to the festive concert atmosphere.

If this show actually toured, I’d be there in a heartbeat. But for now, I’ll have to make do with this video.
